About us . . .

Vangard Farm has been associated with Pembroke Welsh corgis since 1968.  The breeding program was founded on two daughters of the British import Am. Can. Ch. Leonine Leprechaun, ROMX; Ch. Schaferhaus Danielle, ROM and Ch. Far Away Honey Candy, ROM.  Dogs from numerous American and British lines have been incorporated into our program and we wish to acknowledge the success and hard work of those dedicated breeders.  We have never housed a large number of dogs, nor produced many litters.  Our motto has been “a small kennel producing quality dogs.”  Vangard has been the home of 9 All Breed Best-in-Show winners, 6 Pembrokes and 3 Norwegian elkhounds.  Of the Pembrokes, 4 were bred by Vangard.  These 9 dogs together brought home a total of 30 owner-handled All-Breed Bests-in-Show to Vangard Farm.  An additional 23 BIS were added by Vangard dogs handled by others after leaving the farm.  The breeding of elkhounds was halted quite a number of years ago so that we might concentrate on the Pembrokes.

We breed to produce show dogs for ourselves and to continue our line.  After we select what we are keeping, there may be others in the litter available to loving homes.  We never breed just to have puppies to sell.  With very few exceptions, all dogs are sold on spay/neuter contracts.  On occasion, we may have an adult available.

All breeding stock is elbow and hip x-rayed and receives annual eye screenings.  Thyroid, vWD, DM, and cardio checks are also run.  Breeding healthy, sound companions is our primary concern.  Finding good, secure homes for our dogs has always taken priority over placing them in show homes.
